For more than 30 years, La Crescent’s Colleen Storandt has lived with a rare blood disorder that caused her numbness and slurred speech. However, in 2014, Upshaw-Schulman Syndrome almost took her life. Colleen suffered a stroke, which was directly caused by the disease. She recovered, but to ease her symptoms, she began receiving three units of plasma every week. Over the years, Colleen has received more than 600 units of plasma, all made possible through the incredible generosity of blood and plasma donors who save and improve the lives of patients in the La Crosse area and beyond. “I thank each and every donor for helping to save my life,” says Colleen. “Without these treatments and the generosity of donors, I wouldn’t be here.”
